Be Known. Belong. Become.

Our Vision

To be the evangelical seminary in the Pacific Northwest known for equipping thriving pastors and leaders for both the local and global church prepared to present the Gospel in the cultural context of a post-Christian society.

Our Mission

Portland Seminary is Christ-centered, broadly evangelical, and committed to equipping women and men holistically for local and global service.

Our roots are in the Wesleyan and Friends traditions, and we’re home to students from a wide variety of theological persuasions and denominational backgrounds, including evangelical, Mainline and Pentecostal-Charismatic traditions.

Our learning community is...

Rooted Deep. Portland Seminary’s robust programs cultivate leaders who are deeply rooted in Scripture and equipped for effective service in the postmodern world.

Ready for Transformation. Not only is our educational experience academically strong, all Portland Seminary courses are designed to offer rich spiritual formation and renewal opportunities.

Reaching Out. Women, people of color, and other commonly disenfranchised persons are equipped and supported for full ministry. We are a diverse community that respects and learns from each other and turns outward together to serve the world.

Portland Seminary exists to develop leaders and scholars who have a transformative and prophetic influence for Jesus Christ in the church and the world. We pursue this purpose by integrating spiritual formation, history, theology, and biblical and pastoral studies, in a multicultural and ecologically sensitive environment.

Portland Seminary offers a variety of Master's programs and Doctoral programs. Whether in Portland or online, our faculty and staff create an environment where students are educated, trained, and mentored for leadership service.

Portland Seminary students are actively engaged in church ministry as lead pastors, children’s pastors, youth pastors, music pastors, and Sunday School teachers. They are ministry entrepreneurs dreaming up niche nonprofits. They are scholars preparing to earn PhDs. They have questions about faith. They are denominational leaders, stay-at-home parents, retired people, musicians, artists, writers, spiritual directors, and lifelong learners.

Portland Seminary students follow Jesus, seek personal growth, are enriched by diverse viewpoints, and believe in making a difference in the world.
