Driver Certification

Certification is required prior to any travel for university business purposes. If you are planning to drive your personal vehicle or rent a vehicle for university business, you will need to complete the Personal Vehicle Certification process at least five business days prior to your trip.

If you are planning to drive a university vehicle, you will need to complete the University Vehicle Certification process at least 15 business days prior to your trip. This additional time is needed to complete the driving record background check process and to schedule a one-on-one driving observation with Plant Services.

Please note: If your driver's license is issued from a state other than Oregon, additional paperwork may be required in order to request the driving record background check. For example, Washington drivers need to sign a release form to have their driving record checked. Please scan the completed release form and send it to plant services at plantservices@georgefox.edu.

Please see the Vehicle Reservations page for information on how to reserve a vehicle.

Driver Qualifications

To be certified, the driver must:

You must have five years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license to drive university vehicles (cars, trucks, vans). You must have three years of driving experience with a valid driver’s license to drive personal and outside rental vehicles (cars, trucks, vans).

To drive university gators and carts, you must be 19 or older, watch an additional safety video, and receive hands-on training from Plant Services. The same stipulations apply to outside rental gators and carts, although you can be 18 and older to drive them.

For university vehicles and rental vehicles, follow the instructions for the University Vehicle Driver Certification process. This certification is required for driving university vans and vehicles.

For personal vehicles and smaller university vehicles such as gators, carts, and rental vehicles, follow the instructions for the Personal Vehicle Driver Certification process. This certification is required for driving your personal vehicle on university business with other university staff, faculty, or students in your vehicle. (Driving alone does not require approval.)

Those who are approved appear on the university’s Approved Drivers List. If you do not have a George Fox login and want to become a George Fox approved driver, please email plantservices@georgefox.edu.
