Short-Term Disability Insurance
To ensure your income will continue if you are unable to work due to a disability that extends for more than 14 consecutive days or accrued paid time off, whichever is later, George Fox provides free short-term disability coverage.
Benefits are payable for a non-occupational injury or illness that keeps you from performing the normal duties of your job. The benefit amount is 60% of basic earnings up to $1,500 per week, with a benefit duration of 24 weeks.

Long-Term Disability Insurance
Long-term disability insurance helps replace a portion of your income if you are disabled for an extended period of time. Eligibility for long-term benefits are generally defined as:
- Due to sickness or accidental injury which you are receiving appropriate care and treatment
- You are complying with your treatment requirements and unable to earn more than 80% of your pre-disability earnings.
Benefits start after 180 days, with the benefit amount set at 60% of pre-disability monthly earnings, with a maximum benefit of $7,500 per month. The benefit duration is the later of your SSNRA or the maximum benefit period. SSNRA refers to the Social Security Normal Retirement Age in effect under the Social Security Act on the policy effective date.
Disability Accommodations
Our university is dedicated to fostering an inclusive work environment by providing reasonable accommodations for employees with disabilities, medical conditions, or pregnancy-related needs.
In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), we follow a collaborative "interactive process" to identify and implement workplace adjustments that support your success while maintaining the essential functions of your role.
How To Request an Accommodation
You can initiate an accommodation request at any time. To get started, you may:
- Complete the ADA Request Form, notify your supervisor or the Office of People & Culture
- Engage in the Dialogue (ADA Interactive Process): Once notified, the Office of People and Culture will contact you and your supervisor to discuss functional limitations and potential solutions.
Confidentiality and Support
Your privacy is paramount. All medical information gathered during this process is kept strictly confidential and stored in a secure file separate from your general personnel records.
Once an accommodation is active, the Office of People & Culture will check in periodically to ensure the plan remains effective, especially if your job duties or medical needs change. Our goal is to work alongside you to ensure you have the tools and environment necessary to perform your best.
