New Zealand Study Abroad Program

New Zealand

Program Overview

This program is offered in collaboration with Veritas Christian Study Abroad at the University of Otago in Dunedin. Dunedin is located on the South Island on the Otago Peninsula and is often referred to as the Edinburgh of New Zealand, due to its Scottish roots.

The University of Otago is one of the top universities in New Zealand. Veritas students will be partnered with a mission mentor who will be available to offer support in a variety of ways. Veritas is a division of International Studies Abroad (ISA). You will be attending classes with ISA students as well as Veritas students.

Course Content

All courses are taught in English and cover a wide range of topics, including STEM subjects. You will take courses alongside other ISA students, New Zealand students and international students, and will be required to take a comparative religions course or an international missions/service-learning practicum (one to three credits).

Excursions

The program offers a variety of opportunities for travel, including trips to Auckland, Queensland (the New Zealand capital), the Catlins (Cathedral Caves and wildlife observing), the North Otago Region, and Lake Tekapo.

Housing

You will live in single-room flats of four to six rooms. You will not live in flats with other ISA or Veritas students, but will be housed with New Zealand students and international students. Meals and laundry are not included.

Program Fees & Eligibility

You pay your regular George Fox tuition and room and board and continue to receive all of your financial aid. Due to the high cost of some programs, an additional fee may be charged. You are responsible for round-trip airfare. There also may be an additional charge for a visa. The fee does include emergency travel insurance.

To apply, you must be a full-time undergraduate student with junior or senior status, holding a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.

Application Process

Applying to the program is a two-step process, requiring that you complete both a George Fox and external site application. Visit the Application Page to get specific details. Once you’ve completed the George Fox application, we will provide you with information to apply to the New Zealand program.
