Passports

You will need to be sure your passport is up to date in advance of your international trip. Learn more about the passport process on our Passport Information page.

Visas

It is imperative that you begin the process of obtaining a visa as soon as you are accepted into the program. This process can be challenging and lengthy.

  • You must be enrolled at George Fox for a full academic year prior to participation in an off-semester program. Exceptions may be made if necessary for completion of a student's major requirements.

Program Application

A select group of external study abroad opportunities require a separate application.

It’s important to note that you must complete the George Fox application before you can submit your application to an external program.

You will be given the external application upon completion of the George Fox study abroad application process.

Credits

Because you will remain enrolled at George Fox, courses taken in the selected program will appear on George Fox transcripts with a letter grade. Some courses may meet general education or major requirements. However, approval for such credit must be obtained from the registrar's office before the off-campus semester.

Costs

You pay George Fox’s standard tuition, room and board, and student fees (an additional fee is required to attend some programs). Round-trip airfare is also your responsibility.

You also usually need to cover the cost of textbooks and other educational materials, travel to the point of departure from the U.S., visas (if required), and immunizations, depending on the individual program. (Tuition remission students are treated as a regular student and must pay the additional off-campus program fee.)

Financial Aid

Since you’re officially a George Fox student, you continue to receive financial aid, but there are no student employment opportunities in these programs. Sometimes internships can be obtained while studying abroad.

Deposits

George Fox does not require a deposit. However, most off-campus programs do require a deposit and an application fee. If approved by the George Fox Center for Study Abroad, you are responsible to submit the required deposit and/or application fee along with the external program application. The deposit (but not the application fee) will be credited to your account.

Airfare

Typically airfare is not included in the program cost.

Application Deadlines

The application deadline is the first Friday of the spring semester for the upcoming academic year (both fall and spring semesters). Upload all application materials to the Center for Study Abroad’s Canvas site.

Interested in a program not currently approved by George Fox?

You are able to participate in other programs aside from those listed on the national and international programs web pages. However, you must take a leave of absence from George Fox during that semester.

Once you return to campus the following semester, you will be re-enrolled as a George Fox student. Transfer credits are not guaranteed, so you should communicate with your faculty advisor, your Career and Academic Planning coach, and the registrar's office prior to your semester off-campus. You will not receive George Fox financial aid during the semester abroad.
