Weddings at Newberg Chapel

The Chapel at George Fox University is available for weddings from mid-May through mid-August on designated dates and select campus holiday dates during the academic year.

Employees, alumni, current students and those within the community whose faith and practice is consistent with the university’s Christ-centered mission and values are welcome to request the Chapel.

Reservations will be taken up to six months in advance of the event date. Weddings will be given a five-hour window for set-up, photos, ceremony and clean-up.

Receptions are not currently scheduled on campus.

Rental Rates

General Rate: $975
Holiday Rate: $1,250

A 10% discount is available when either or both the bride or groom are current students, alumni or employees.

FAQ

General

Anyone is welcome to submit a wedding interest form. The university requires that the bride’s, groom’s and officiant’s faith and practice is consistent with the university’s Christ-centered mission and values.

Complete a pre-marriage program such as the Prepare/Enrich assessment on your own.

No. You will need to take care of your ceremony planning.  We encourage hiring a wedding coordinator and can recommend our preferred partner.

Logistics

Simple arrangements may be placed at the front of the room.

  • Decorations cannot be attached to walls, doors or windows. 
  • Decorations can be attached to chairs with ties or tape that do not leave behind any residue, gouges or scarring to the furniture. 
  • Items are not to be placed on or attached to the piano and organ with the exception of music.

No. Open flames including lit candles are prohibited by fire code. Battery-operated candles are permitted.

Throwing of items such as rice, flowers, flower petals, glitter, confetti and bubbles is not allowed inside the Chapel. Flowers, flower petals and bubbles are allowed outside the Chapel beyond the outdoor entryway.  

No. The Chapel is designed without technology equipment in order to create a distraction-free prayer and reflection space. 

Technology & Facility Offerings

The PA system has the ability to run two microphones and play recorded music.

Yes. We can provide WiFi.

Yes. We have a grand piano available as well as an organ. Your organist will need to meet with a music department representative for a brief tutorial prior to your wedding date.

The Chapel has theatre-style seating for 290 with chairs that are attached to each other.

No. If you feel that golf carts will be needed, contact event services to discuss rental options.

Policies

The Chapel is not designed with dressing rooms. Dressing rooms will be provided in separate buildings. The wedding party should provide their own umbrellas or ponchos as needed.

No. Only trained service animals assisting disabled persons are allowed in The Chapel.

We are a tobacco-free and smoke-free campus. The university prohibits smoking, including e-cigarettes/vapor cigarettes, products containing nicotine, and all forms of tobacco use or possession everywhere on campus, as well as off campus by students.

No. George Fox University is an alcohol-free campus. 

Yes. You can provide recorded music, provide your own keyboardist to play the piano or organ, or bring your own acoustic instrument musician. Music selections should be approved by the university in advance. 

Pictures without flash may be taken throughout the ceremony. Formal pictures may be taken inside or outside the Chapel within your five-hour reserved time frame.  

No. All weddings on campus are scheduled inside the Chapel.

The bride and groom may partake in communion during the ceremony. We ask that non-alcoholic communion be limited to the platform area and not served to the entire audience.

The summer conference season is robust and meeting spaces are already heavily scheduled. Coordinating reception space with weddings would severely limit available dates. Receptions also often include components that are beyond our bandwidth to provide on campus.

The initial deposit is non-refundable. The remaining payment can be returned if cancellation occurs 60 or more days prior to the wedding date.

No. You may choose your own musicians, florist, photographer, videographer, calligrapher, decorator, shuttle service and other services.

Parking & Amenities

Free parking is available in the Bauman parking lot. Day permits are not required.  

No. Children are expected to stay with their parents and be supervised at all times.

We do not coordinate or staff a coat check area.
