Threshold: Where Community Begins

Next week all incoming students at Portland Seminary arrive on-campus for “Threshold” -  an orientation event for new seminarians. This three day event serves as a catalyst for community life among new cohorts of students.

Threshold was a defining moment for my experience as a seminary student at Fox”, says Adam McGuffie, ‘15 MA in Ministry Leadership graduate, “It provided space for my cohort to come together and get to know one another outside of our online interactions.”

The students will be introduced to the seminary faculty, and will have opportunities to hear faculty lecture and to eat meals with them. Local Quaker pastor Nate Macy will lead worship for the event, and local Foursquare pastor and author A.J. Swoboda will share devotions.

Several notable alumni will be present, sharing stories of their experiences in seminary with the incoming students. Students will also participate in a number of team building and assessment activities with their cohort and will experience a professional networking workshop as a part of the event.
