Bicycle Registration Policies

All members of the campus community are encouraged to register your bike with Campus Public Safety. Officers periodically sweep the campus and remove bicycles that have been left unattended for long periods of time. If the bike is registered, they will contact you prior to its removal. Additionally, if the bicycle is stolen, they will have information on file, which may assist in its recovery.

Why We Do This

Parking of Bicycles

These regulations are intended to prevent bicycles from parking in areas of high pedestrian traffic, areas that could cause a safety hazard, or places that could be disruptive to other people.

  1. Bicycles must be parked in the bicycle racks/pods provided. They must not be parked on lawns or sidewalks or chained to trees, light poles, fences, benches, etc. Bicycles are to be parked in a manner that does not block pedestrian paths or building or emergency access and must be secured with a commercially available lock to prevent theft.

Bicycles may be secured to handrails as long as they do not block pedestrian paths or create a safety hazard, only if there are no bicycle loops or racks within the immediate area. Bicycles that are improperly parked may be impounded by the cutting and removing of a locking device when necessary. Of particular concern are bicycles parked on disability access ramps. Bicycles found on these ramps will be immediately removed and impounded. The cost of the lock is not reimbursed by the university.

  2. Bicycles that are considered abandoned will be impounded. They may be removed by cutting the locking device, when necessary.

  3. Bicycles may not be parked, stored or left standing in the lobby, hallway or room of any academic or administrative building except within private offices with the approval from the department head or building monitor. Policies and procedures governing the storage of bicycles inside any facility owned, operated or managed by university housing, may be found in the current Residence Hall Handbook.

Abandoned Bicycles

Campus Public Safety will tag bikes that appear inoperable/abandoned. After two weeks any bikes that still have the tag attached will be subject to impoundment for 60 days. If the bike is not claimed within the 60 days, it will go to a local charity or be put into use at the discretion of Plant Service’s needs.

Throughout the year, inoperable/abandoned bicycles are collected and delivered to the impound lot. Operable bicycles must have:

To reclaim a bicycle, owners must email security@georgefox.edu or call 503-554-2090. Owners must have:

Bicycle Roundup

At the end of the spring semester a university-wide bicycle "clean-up" is done. Bicycles that are illegally parked, unregistered or inoperable are impounded. Bicycle racks need to be cleared to do routine maintenance to the bicycles racks and surrounding areas.

In order to accommodate the maintenance of the bicycle rack areas, bicycles may not be stored on campus during the summer semester. If you are not going to be on campus using your bicycles during the summer, please remove it. Bicycle claims can be made at the Campus Public Safety/parking services office.

Students using their bikes during summer must move their bikes to the nearest rack of their summer housing.

Bicycles NOT picked up from the impound lot within 60 days will be forwarded to the local charities at the discretion of the Campus Public Safety department. Junk bicycles will be recycled.
